This description was added to increase the information provided.  This route is a sport climb up a very smooth-appearing face with virtually no holds.  From its appearance from the ground, it looks nearly impossible to climb.  Apparently, there are holds.  Kudos to the first ascentionist in sending it.  Early on, there was a broken hold which was apparently glued back on.

Polar Sandals is a new 35 meter climb at Table. Thanks to Kirk for equipping this line.

Start up the thin dihedral, then make cool moves (cruxy) left to the face of the "pillar". Slab it out for a couple bolts to a rest. There is some moderate climbing to a sweet mantle and another rest. Move left, and blast to the top on steep rock. Finish with an easy runout to the anchors. This has good movement, with upper and lower cruxes. I hope this cleans up as nicely as

This burly variation takes the crack and face to the top of

Cool Water Sandwich

without stemming to the left wall.

Hand & finger jams get you through through the slot and onto a large block.  Face climb past five bolts above to the anchors.

Pull into the shallow dihedral, climb to the ledge, and stem your way to the anchors.

The direct variation, Rubber Biscuit, climbs the crack and face, without stemming to the left wall and goes at 5.11.

No Gumbies climbs the slab above the small roof where the first bolt is located.  Small edges lead to an overhanging face just below the anchors.  The crux is well protected.

This climb was bolted generously, because it is long, steep, and a little bit rotten; hence the name.

This route is kind of fun, but it gets no stars in the Haas/Schneider guidebook. It is a way to climb most of

Polar Sandals

without doing its crux. The rock contains some lichen in this area, but it is not too bad. If you want to finish on

, bring 10 quickdraws. There is no webbing on a horn after the first 5.7 section as described by Haas/Schneider. The last 15 feet up to the

anchor is the crux.

The crux comes right away.  The groove you fight up IS gruesome.  If you can figure it out, you'll be warmed up for the steep and easier (but sustained) climbing above.  Don't worry if the start stops you, you can avoid the crux on the left and move back to the 2nd bolt.  This brings the overall difficulty down into the 10 range.

The crux is the transition from stem to arete.  Be careful not to break the loose foot hold while making the first clip.

Keep to the left in the

POS Dihedral

, and climb to the diving board with the wedged old white tat. Surmount the diving board, and a nice hand crack will take you to the first bolt. Climb onto the block above and follow the bolts up the scoop. Climb up right onto another large block and clip two more bolts to reach the offwidth.

This crack is ascended with a combination of stemming and face holds.  With the exception of one hand jam at the bottom, I did not use the crack except for gear.  The crack is about #0.75 Camalot sized its entire length. At the top of the crack, a bolt can be clipped on

Stickin' it to the Man

to protect the chossy, rightward moves to the anchor.  I placed a #3 and #4 Camalot slightly higher than the bolt.  This is a good route with the exception of the last 10 feet where the rock quality deteriorates.

.  Begin with stemming up the bolted crack just right of

.  The route has gray hangers, shares no bolts with

Winter Warmer

, and is closely bolted.  This is the easiest long pitch at Table. Steep too!  Like all routes here, watch out for loose holds.

It is still possible to do Winter Warmer Right, but this means using some of the bolts on the new, discrete, Stick It To The Man.

I am surprised this one isn't in the database. The old approach (grappling up the barb wire fence dumped one close to the routes in the area loosely described as the "Fence Area".

As sport climb goes, this one was pretty sporty. I wasn't using a clip stick in those days, so I thought getting to the first clip was pretty bold. This was around '93 so things might have changed a bit.

: This route was a lot of fun and very powerful (or more likely I'm weak.) The route is easy to spot because there are three fairly low bolts within 6 feet of one another. The route is well protected throughout and possibly even slightly over bolted. It starts with a series of difficult bouldery moves and a low crux. Around the halfway point, the feet are very sparse which got me to do a fun but very dynamic move. From the crux, it eases up a little and then a lot as you get closer to the top. There is a set of anchors, a large bulge, and then another set of anchors, but I didn't see the bolts in between (if there were any).

NIMBY starts with crux moves clipping, and moving past, the first bolt.  A second bolt is clipped once you are on easier ground. (Now there are 7 bolts.)  Move up the steep face above and place gear before pulling over a small roof onto a good stance.  From here, a somewhat runout but easy (5.7) slab with good horizontal edges is climbed to the anchors.

Climb the start of

through its crux, clipping 9 or 10 bolts, and step right to a good rest in an alcove. Clip an overhead bolt up and right to protect a fun, airy pull out of the alcove right. Another bolt protects the stand up and traverse right to finish on

Not really a "sport" climb. There are only 2 bolts (don't blow the 2nd clip).  There are some gear placements before the first bolt, but they are not that inspiring.  This is the R part, but only 5.9ish. Above the roof there is plenty of gear options (if needed).  The crux is moving up to, then over the roof....

The route climbs the obvious chimney.  At its top, break left to a layback crack.  The chimney looks a bit dirty, but it's not too bad and has some interesting hidden holds.  The layback crack is great although a little short.

.  You can recognize it by the big death flake right of the 2nd bolt.  You can clip the 3rd from standing on it (don't knock it off on your belayer).  The 4th bolt is way out of line with the natural line.  It can be replaced with a small nut in a thin crack, or a cam in the bigger crack to the left.  There is one last bolt and a steep crank to the anchor.

Hop up some ledges til you reach a really sharp layback crack.  If only this was much longer, it would be a classic.  Make a couple layback moves, be careful of the loose part of the flake, mantle onto a ledge and cruise the blocky crack to the top of the

pinnacle.

Climb the slot with small cams and a few nuts to the belay ledge on

protected by more wires and small cams.  When the crack runs out, the real choss begins, but so do the bolts; all the way to the rim.

, this is the large open book starting about 15 feet off the ground.

We did this route using the crack in the back of the dihedral (5.10a) it is apparently 5.10c if you don't use the crack.  This climb feels a lot bigger than it looks once you get up into the dihedral.  You can get an all-day rest half way up by putting your back on the right wall and your feet just below the tiny roof.  It is a very trad route except for the bolts!

Just what I was looking for: a chance to spray about Dave Fields. Dave put up many of the routes on North Table Mountain back when it just looked like a choss pile. The crags don't look much better several years down the line, but a slew of fine climbing routes have arisen from the heap. Winter Warmer is certainly one of the best lines on the hill and a fine contribution on Dave's part.

The climbing begins below the tallest sector of the hill, and takes a bold stab up the headwall 65 feet above. Start in a flaring, inverted slot and make a big reach to killer jugs and the second clip. The bigger your ape index, the easier the move.  Winter Warmer steps left to follow a line of bolts up to the roof and head wall above. A variation to Winter Warmer stays straight on after the second clip and follows a thin seam for a short way. This is also a fine route, and it is also 80 - 85 feet long. Pull the roof on Winter Warmer on its left hand side and continue up a pumpy jug haul to the double bolt anchor that is over a ledge and out of sight.

Three stars by any estimate for the nice long route, good climbing moves, boldness, and overall fine stone.

.  Start up an easy face, to a prominent thin crack which takes TCUs. Above this crack, you will see a roof with one bolt on it.  I gave it an S rating, as the pro between these two points is hard to come by, besides a few tricky nut placements.  Above the roof the climbing eases to a two-bolt anchor.

Electrocuticles begins at the point where the broken fence just meets the wall. This excellent line fires up a nearly black and nearly blank wall about 60 feet to the right of

and a bit left of the

. Negotiate a reachy jug haul to stand on micro feet below the black wall. A few tricky moves on the arete lead to a clip that almost provides a top rope for the crux. Suck in your breath after the crux, 5.12a, for a dicey run out to more jugs, another clip or two and the anchor. Electrocuticles gets two stars for for rock, the continuity, and the tricky moves. This stuff is thin by Table Mountain standards and the climbing is very technical. Nice job and a nice eye by the FA team.
